Application

The 1ive0n1ine application is our attempt to capture the thought-spaces of people who want to attain virtual immortality. The system will enable people to map their relations to the world, and the world’s relations to them. It works by allowing people to make simple statements about the relation between any two things. After a user has logged in, and has told the system his name, a special place in the ‘world of thoughts’ or ‘interconceptual world’ is made for him. Now the user can say for example that he likes chocolate by filling that in, in the entry field. If the category chocolate hasn’t already been made, it will be made instantaneously. If the category of chocolate did already exist, the user can see things that other users have said about chocolate. Now the user can state things he wants to say about chocolate, for example what its made of, or what color it is, or anything else. He can also make a link to an external site that contains more information about chocolate.

With a little slider, the user can give a little subtlety to his statements, by positioning it anywhere on a scale from completely false to completely true.

This way, the user builds on a virtual representation of the way he looks at the people and things that are relevant to him, and the way they interrelate.

The totality of statements that are made by users will result in a form of semantic network that represents a part of the way that people perceive their world. With this information, the 1ive0n1ine application can calculate for example who the person is whose view on the world resembles yours most closely. Or it can suggest which things you might be interested in. You can use it to find out what subjects you and your friends have in common, or who of you has got the most to do with chocolate.

The system will store your information until after your death, and keep in accessible for others. After your input into the system has stopped, it will still influence others. You might for example turn out to be the one who’s thought-space was most similar to someone you’ve never met when you were alive. Or one of your long dead and rarely viewed ideas or concepts can suddenly be suggested by 1ive0n1ine to someone to whom it is relevant. You have attained virtual immortality.

The beta version has proved to be working quite satisfactory, the official release version is currently still in development.
